The Problem With Monthly Views

Monthly cash flow views are dangerous for one reason: they average out the danger. A founder with $80,000 in the bank and a $74,000 payroll due on the 15th looks fine on a monthly P&L. But if the $14,000 client payment they're counting on arrives on the 16th instead of the 14th, they miss payroll, by one day. y.

Monthly views cannot answer the question that actually matters: "Do I have enough cash on the 15th?" Day-level forecasting can. RunwayCal's Cash Position Forecast projects your bank balance forward one day at a time for 60 days, every scheduled outflow on its exact date, every expected inflow timed from each client's actual collection speed. d.

Example: July 14 shortfall

Balance on July 13: $12,400. Payroll of $74,000 due July 15. TechNova payment of $14,000 expected July 18 (44-day average collection speed). RunwayCal flags July 14: projected balance drops to -$61,600 before TechNova pays. Cause: "Payroll of $74K due before TechNova payment arrives." Mitigation: "If TechNova pays by July 25, balance stays positive."

How Cash Position Forecast Works

Starting balance from your verified bank balance. Scheduled outflows: payroll on exact salary dates, tool billing on renewal dates, tax deadlines, loan repayments. Expected inflows based on deal close date plus each client's average collection speed. Every number is deterministic, no AI estimating what you might spend.

Shortfall Detection

When the forecast projects your balance dropping below zero, RunwayCal surfaces the exact date, the outflow that causes it (e.g., "Payroll: $74,000 on Apr 15"), the inflow it depends on, and a suggested mitigation. Shortfall alerts appear in Mission Control and your weekly digest.

Built on Real Data, Not Predictions

Every outflow was entered by you, the salary amount, billing date, tax deadline. Every inflow is based on a deal with a specific expected close date. The forecast is auditable: show a board member exactly which payroll run or client payment caused a change in week three. No black box.

When a shortfall is detected, RunwayCal doesn't just alert you , it explains the cause and links directly tolinks directly to Scenarios so you can model alternatives. Delay a hire. Negotiate faster payment terms. Draw on a credit line. See the impact on your daily cash position before you commit.

You control every number. The forecast is deterministic. No AI guessing. No "we think you'll have $X." Instead: "Based on your actual $74K payroll on the 15th and TechNova's average 44-day payment cycle, you'll have $X on July 28." Every figure traces to a source you defined.
